Learn how to edit wildlife photos like me
In this photo editing course, I will personally take you through my entire process — from organising your files to picking and choosing the best images, through the actual photo editing to get the most details out of your images and bring them to life, all the way to getting them ready for different purposes and potentially delivering them to clients.
What you get
The course consists of two private online sessions via Skype of about an hour and a half each. During which we will go over the steps at your pace. Are there things you're already familiar with? Then we'll go through them faster. But if something's completely new to you, we will take all the time you need. At any time, you can ask questions if something is not clear to you. That's why the sessions are one-on-one, instead of you just getting to look at videos of me doing what I do.
By the end, you will have the tools to turn your images into trues pieces of art. And it doesn't just end after the two sessions either. You will still have a direct link with me to ask questions, even long after you go off to do things on your own. Are you struggling with something? Do you need a second opinion? You're always free to ask.
What you learn
During the course, you will learn the following things:
- How to organise all your files and make your best ones easier to find.
- How to reduce unwanted noise and bring out the details.
- How to use different types of contrast — light, colour and texture — to truly bring your images to life.
- Why there's a difference in editing for black & white and for full colour.
- Why you need different copies for different purposes (i.e. print vs social media).
- How you can speed up your workflow with the right type of presets.
And to make it better for you: you'll get a pack of the workflow presets I use myself during the sessions as well. So you won't have to make them yourself. That'll save you some time!
How it works
The editing course is designed to be as comfortable for you as possible. You can do it from the comfort of your own home. All you need to do is follow the following steps:
1. Booking and planning
To book your first session, you simply have to text me on WhatsApp or DM me on Instagram to figure out a date and time. Once that is decided on, you pay the full fee for the course in advance and then I handle the administrative side of it.
In advance, you can send me around 10 of your images you would like to work with during the sessions. We won't go over all of them, but it's better to have a few to choose from.
2. The first session
During our initial session, we'll first cover some of the basics of organising and picking the right image. After that, we'll start working on the first image. For that we'll use an image you sent in that covers as many of the topics from the course as possible. This first image will take the longest, because we'll go over everything at your pace. If there's time for more images, we'll do some more and you'll see how much faster things go.
3. After the first session
Once we're done with the first session, you can start experimenting with what you've learned so far. Then we schedule the second session, whenever you feel ready for it.
You'll receive a little preset pack to help speed up your workflow, as well as the end results of the images we've worked on during session 1, plus a little reminder of all the steps that were covered. That can be helpful, while you're first practicing this new workflow.
4. The second session
During the second session, we'll repeat what you've learned before and we can take the time to go more in-depth on the issues you might have encountered. You're more than welcome to send in some more images ahead of the session, now that you have a better understanding of what we'll be doing.
This session is mainly about clearing up anything that might still have been confusing after the first session. For questions you might not have thought of until you actually started doing things yourself, which is a very common thing to have.
5. After the course
If there's any last questions after the course, we can go over them. Even if you run into something later on, you can always ask via DM or WhatsApp. At this point, you will be able to get the most out of your images and be able to turn them intro true works of art. Something you'd love to hang on your wall.
Frequently asked questions
Who is this editing course for?
The editing course is for any photographer — amateur or professional — who is looking to get more out of their images. To get a better understanding of the advanced tricks and techniques that truly make the animals come to life in a still image. Or as I've personally experienced it: to give your images that "Wow!" factor.
What are the requirements for this course?
All you really need to follow the course is a computer, a stable internet connection and Skype installed. I will be sharing my screen and that's all we'll be looking at, so you don't even need a camera/webcam.
In terms of software, I will be working with Photoshop and Camera Raw (included in Photoshop), so a basic understanding of those will be helpful, but not required.
How can I pay?
The easiest way to pay is via PayPal. But if you prefer other options, like credit card or Apple Pay/Google Pay, you can ask for a payment link for those as well.
The payment should be made prior to the first editing session. If the payment is not received in time, your first session may be postponed or cancelled.
